The teaching of karma as a strategy to frighten and scare people away from committing sins is effective only for some. To instill the idea that the effects from our deeds, good or bad, will be returned to us in this life or next lives is not enough to stop or restrain many people from doing wrong things.
Those who do not care about this principle can be seen on TV news and in the newspaper every day.
The law of karma (law of action) is a natural law on reasonable ground. Doing good things brings us good results, and doing bad things brings us bad results. This can be compared to growing plants, when each kind of plant will always yield that particular kind of fruits.
Yuree Kensaku
In Karma Police, Yuree shares her experience of being cheated by a construction contractor, a situation which left her homeless and studio-less. While facing considerable upheaval and angst, the artist was reminded of the natural rules of the law of Karma and took a step back to look around and observe how different religions have different ways of looking at how the world works. In terms of technique and materials, Yuree employs fiberglass in the series. The resulting works blur the line between painting and sculpture.
The opening reception included a special animation and live sound performance by Yuree Kensaku and Moderndog guitarist May-T Noijinda.
